Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte has fired off on Daniel Dubois – accusing the young boxer of “quitting” in the tenth round of Saturday’s high stakes fight with Olympic silver medal winner Joe Joyce at Church House in London.
The 23-year-old Dubois, who was 15-0 when he entered the ring, was a solid betting favorite to knock Joyce out.
But Joyce showed off his granite chin, as he was able to take Dubois’ biggest punches and continued to press forward.
By the tenth round, Dubois’ left eye was practically swollen shut from Joyce’s accurate power jabs.
After a shot landed directly on the eye, Dubois voluntarily took a knee and allowed the referee to count him out.
In a post-fight interview, Dubois claimed to have momentarily lost his vision when the shot connected and wasn’t sure if there was severe damage.
In past interview, Dubois and his promoter, Frank Warren, expressed heavy interest in making a fight with Whyte.
In the aftermath of Saturday’s bout, Whyte tore apart Dubois for his decision to take a knee and get counted out.
“They ain’t got nothing to say right now. Man’s out here quitting. Sh-t, man’s out here quitting in mid-fight,” Whyte said on Instagram.
