Udoma Ekarika mourns as PDP buries State Chairman today

Former Commissioner for Health in Akwa Ibom State has mourned the passing away of the State Chairman of the PDP, Rt Honorable Udo Ekpeyong who is billed for burial today at his home town, Ikot Oku Usun in Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Both men had earlier served in Obong Attah’s cabinet as Commissioner and Special Adviser to respectively.

Hon (Dr) Udoma, proprietor of Daarty Hotels Limited, Ewet Housing, Uyo, in a published tribute to on the late State Chairman recalled how Udo Ekpeyong negotiated his return to the PDP and the cordial relationship that they had enjoyed under Obong Attah and Governor Udom Emmanuel. A saddened Udoma said the demise of Ekpeyong will remain a great loss to Akwa Ibom State and the PDP in particular.

He wrote: “Words cannot express my grief on the death of the political General, Rt. Hon. Udo ‘Loyalty’ Ekpenyong. My sorrow is multi-dimensional. Udo’s sudden demise at this particular time is painful and indeed more painful than the word pain. It is absolute meaninglessness to try to capture and pin down the real essence of this calamity at this moment. It is like trying to box ones shadow. The reality is that Udo is dead and gone. The best is to leave the whole matter to God and History.

“Rt. Hon. Udo Ekpenyong was my brother, friend, neighbour, political associate and above all my confidant. We came from the same Federal Constituency. We worked together as Cabinet members in His Excellency Arc. (Obong) Victor Attah’s progressive administration. When Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) became too hot for me between 2007 and 2015, I reluctantly left. It was Udo’s wise counsel, instrumentality and engineering that brought me back to the PDP family in 2018. Oh, my asset is gone. How and where do I start from here? Question, Question and Question.

“However, I am consoled, my friend did not lead a worthless life. He left behind worthy legacies in the sands of time. He was honest, trustworthy and dependable to those who believed in his ideals. These legacies must not be forgotten but cherished forever in his noble memory.

“I hereby pray earnestly to the Almighty God, the father of our hope to give the family, relatives, friends and political associates he left behind the fortitude to bear the loss while granting his soul eternal rest in his kingdom.
Adieu my true friend. Adieu Udo ‘Loyalty’ Ekpenyong”

Recall that Rt Hon Udo Ekpeyong dies last month as a result of Covid-19 complications. Since then, tributes and encomiums have been flooded the media with members of the PDP in particular mourning the demise of the number one party man.
